SEO and Marketing intern
About us
We are a digital agency working with Hong Kong brand specialising in retailing educational toys, children's books, and in-store workshops. Families shop with us online and in several mall locations across the city. Search is how many of those families discover a first product, a weekend class, or a nearby store — and we want to get much better at being found.
This internship sits within our Marketing department and works closely with e-commerce, store operations, and content. It is a hands-on role, not a shadowing-only placement. You will work on live sites (a brand / events site and a Shopify store), real product pages, and real local listings.
The role
You will support the day-to-day SEO programme: keeping pages indexable and accurate, improving titles and content, tidying a large product catalogue, and helping our stores and workshops show up in local search. You will report to the marketing lead and present a short monthly snapshot of what you found and what you shipped.
What you will do
- Technical hygiene. Check robots, sitemaps, canonicals, index status, redirects, and broken pages. Flag issues clearly and help get them fixed.
- On-page optimisation. Rewrite title tags, meta descriptions, headings, and alt text for homepages, collections, store pages, and priority products — in English and Traditional Chinese where needed.
- Catalogue quality. Help audit out-of-stock and discontinued products, recommend keep / redirect / noindex rules, and keep featured collections aligned with what we can actually sell.
- Content support. Draft or edit parent-facing guides (age-based toy picks, bilingual books, seasonal gift lists) and make sure they link to in-stock products.
- Local SEO. Keep store names, addresses, hours, and photos consistent. Support Google Business Profile updates and workshop / event pages.
- Measurement. Pull basic reports from Google Search Console and analytics. Track a small set of brand, category, product, and local queries each month.
- Competitive notes. Watch how other Hong Kong toy, book, and education retailers show up in search and share short observations with the team.
What we are looking for
Must-have
- Currently studying, or recently graduated in, marketing, communications, digital media, information science, or a related field.
- A genuine interest in how search engines work — you have used Google as a researcher, not only as a shopper.
- Clear written English. Comfortable reading and writing Traditional Chinese, or willing to work bilingual copy with support.
- Organised, detail-minded, and happy in spreadsheets. SEO work is often many small accurate fixes, not one big campaign.
- Able to explain a finding in plain language: what is broken, why it matters, what to do next.
- Based in Hong Kong and able to come into our office on agreed days.
Nice to have — not required
- Coursework, a student project, or a personal site where you practised on-page SEO.
- Familiarity with Shopify, Wix, WordPress, Google Search Console, GA4, or Looker Studio.
- An eye for product copy and what Hong Kong parents actually search for.
- Basic HTML comfort (you can find a title tag or a noindex note in page source).
What you will learn
- How SEO works on a live multi-site retail setup, not only in a classroom case study.
- How merchandising, stock availability, and search results affect each other.
- Local search for a multi-store retailer, including workshops and events.
- How to brief developers and buyers so SEO recommendations actually ship.
- A portfolio of real pages and a before/after measurement story you can take to your next role.
